Sign in to disble this ad
I heard that he auditioned to play bass for metallica but got rejected. Playinwise hes definitely up to notch.....as for the real reason............

He didnt wear his bass low enough!! Lets face it, if Trujillo wore his bass up his neck he prolly wouldvebeen rejected too :-)

Les' playing wouldn't fit Metallica at all. Les is good, but he's not right for Metallica.

From what my friend told me, Metallica told him "he's too good." I don't know about the validity of that statement, though.

I heard them say that in an interview. But it sounded like bull, a bit of arse-licking.

It's more about fit than skill... Claypool's great, but not a match.

Ooooh! I agree with that! No Primus would have been just bad all around! A unique great band. Never sounded like anything else but PRIMUS and that is rare in this world of copycat bands right and left.

I know, and I think he'd be pretty mad too, since the first album he was destined to appear on, ...And Justice For All, would see him buried in the mix!

I personally think that if clapool tried out for metallica, he thinks hes got what it takes to be in it. Just because that hasnt been his style up to now doesnt mean he can't adapt. Too bad hes not in there.

Wasn't he in a death metal band before Primus? Seven Churches or something?

That, of course, could be said of anyone who tried out for that spot. Personally, I don't think he would have been a good fit, either, both in playing style and personality.

Yeah, Metallica could have used some groove.

That's exactly what I heard too. He got the audition because him and Kirk Hammett grew up together. He said in school Kirk Hammett was a big geek and didnt talk to to many people. But Claypool said with Hammett he wouldnt have heard people like Hendrix and other great artists.

Actually Larry LaLonde was the guitarist for Possessed, the first death metal band, their debut album Seven Churches is the first death metal album. The CD kicks ass. It's in my room somewhere. I should find it.

I heard it was that Les would steal all of the groupies. Metallica is too old and, well, old.

This is from Wikipedia, but I've seen this info elsewhere, too:

Claypool replaced them with metal guitarist Lalonde and eclectic drummer Tim Alexander.

Les isn't exacly younger than the guys in Metallica, he did go to school with Kirk after all.

I don't know about the "Les being too good" thing. If that was so then why did Metallica kick out Ron in favor of Cliff.

I don't think it's really a talent contest, because Cliff was "talented" in the field of "innovative" heavy metal bass playing, if you listen to his fans. Les was more famed for a far out funky style!
