Think of all the great bands through the years whose bass players made a significant contribution to the band's sonic identity. Rush, Peppers, Primus, Yes, and scores of others. Some of them so because the bass players were/are flashy, others just because the bass players had a specific sound or charisma of playing that went a certain distance to make the band what they were.
But what about the current crop? What are some new and emerging bands who are notable at least in part because of the contributions of their bass players?
Let's think primarily about bands that have entered the scene materially in the last five years, and not fusion bass players who record their own albums. I know about Hadrien Feraud, Tal Wilkenfeld, Willis, Wooten, and all of those cats - great players but not what I am asking about here. Thoughts?

Remember Right Now and Stop doing bad things.
The last album was great, but not the same caliber as the bass player left.

also, The Exit. three piece from new york in the same vein as the Police, a little Talking Heads, and other's of the same style. very solid work. grooves a mile wide.

I just saw Paper Route, and the band was great. Everyone of them are musical animals.

Mishca is an old friend of mine and he's about as humble a guy as could be imagined... but still great grooves, note choice and use of simple pedals (holy grail. boss OD, volume pedal) to great effect.
