Donald Dennis is the bassman for the firehouse crew and Xterminator Productions that backs Sizzla, Turbulance, Luciano (a while back) and many many more. He's got a ton of session work with almost every roots, conscious, dancehall on the scene in JA. Almost every Xterminator produced album has him on bass. He plays an interesting bass too, can't determine what it is. He's my favorite for the new ones.

Flabba, Shakespeare, and Familyman are already on my Bass Hall of Fame!
Love every Burning Spear bassist as well...

Paul Simonon learned how to play bass off of reggae records, which was pretty much all his listened to before punk came along. So he always had that ragga feel in his bass lines.

I'd also throw in Horace Panter from The Specials.

Speaking of Robbie Shakespeare, go get Bob Dylan's "Infidels" album if you want to hear the man and his partner Sly Dunbar in a slightly unusual context. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but damn!

Boris Gardner....this man is crazy. He pretty much did everything with the Upsetters (Lee Scratch Perry's band) from 1974-1979 in the Black Ark studio

Speaking of Simonon, if you include bassists with a heavy reggae influence, check out Sting's work with the Police.

Yes, they are awesome. The show that night was one of the best nights of my life. Opening for them was an honor.
