Jorma is with him on guitar through the whole video, and they play a variety of tunes (or pieces of them) together; after each, Jack goes back through each section of the song and reviews various ideas and techniques he was using as they were playing it. You learn a lot about technique, but even more about how to THINK like a (great) musician, respond to what another player is doing, etc. You can watch it over and over and learn more each time.
Have your guitar player buddies watch it too! ANY musician could learn a lot from this vid -- and really enjoy it. |
^ Highly recommended ^
You can get this at
www.homespuntapes.com They rate it
a level 3, intermediate skill. His performance tips on tone
and detailing are very good.

Betcha she can make you sound just like James Jamerson,
I've heard she's an expert at that.
Another DVD I found very helpful was by a guitarist named
Peter Huttlinger. He is a national guitar fingerstyle champion
and a Nashville icon that backs Leanne Rimes, as well as an
instructor at the Fur Peace Ranch. His DVD, Essential Exercises
for Fingerstyle Guitar translates directly to bass
right hand fingerstyle work. That DVD is about an hour, and
it will be a significant challenge to anyone that chooses to
work with it.
Available from Homespun as well, actually, they recommended
it when I called looking for right hand exercises for the bass.
