First of all, may I ask you to excuse the fanboyism
Floods is probably my favourite Pantera song I've heard. And a big part of why I like it is that monstorous tone Rex gets during the guitar solo. It's like an earthquake! Trouble I don't know how he obtains it. I'd expect a good part of it would be the Spector and Ampeg combination, but that sounds like a little more than an overdriven tube amp to me.
Obviously I'd love some help in finding out what else could be done to acheive this tone, anyone have any ideas?
I read in an interview with Rex about his work with Down (can't for the life of me remember the name of the mag, most probably Bass Player I think) and he said that he has 'this one (overdrive?) pedal that works more like a gain boost' so maybe that could be it?
May I say thanks for taking your time and reading this
