For everyone who digs Pantera and this kinda music, enjoy!

Yeah, the best, hands down. Rex and Vince don't get the props they should, having to support mega-talents like Dime and Phil. But you throw any other Joe Blow in there and it'd come crashing down.

Bass enhanched mix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BUoL...eature=related

I might be biased as a bass player, but.... that sounds so much more brutal to my ears than the original!

FBD was Rex's first time to track with a Spector, and he used an early 80's Brooklyn NS-2. Tuned to C# std, throw on some dirt and his heaping helping of compression = metal godliness of toanez.

I disagree, it would become to "harsh" :/ A lot of people here on TB tend to praise mids all the time (and "mids" is a very wide term), but I must say, I will NEVER turn the mid knob up on my gear any more than necessary to be heard.

I never scoop, but I dislike to boost ;-)

well the drums are super scooped too. its just the way metal is. unless you take the tool route. which id like in this mix

That's actually a lot of mids... Rex was big into the high mids, b/c he had to work around Dime's super-scooped tone so he filled up the middle. 900-2k nails his tone, plus compression. S'why Vinnie's kick is so high-bass/low-mid pitched as well.

Ah okay thanks man, I always thought that was a scooped sound.

As they say, you learn something new everyday

Really gotta stop with those lame rhymes...

Newp. I have the graphic EQ on my Mesa tailored to almost exactly his tone and it's all about the high mids. He cuts a ton of lows actually.
Check his gear walkthrough YT video and you can see the graphic EQ's on his SVT4's. And in past interviews about recording, etc., that's where he really focuses his tone.
He has this old school Rocktron compressor that helps a lot too. I never would have thought compression was a key to getting his tone, but it really is I've come to find. Luckily my Boogie also has a killer onboard compressor so I've got it pretty much dialed in.
