You guessed correct! No one ever knew what the 114 meant lol. I'm definitely considering posting something on CL, but I might wait until I have some free time (my two internships are ending soon and I'm working 2 days a week at my part-time job). Quote:

Another downside is you'll find yourself singing songs to remind the band in rehearsal about songs they were "SUPPOSE" to study at home (Am I seriously the only freakin' one in a band of 6 that knows 'Tearin' Up My Heart'? Fine, it goes like this...)
But originals, you know, it's you. It's who you are and a piece of you existing for a moment in time for as long as you get to play music. If you're gonna do this, having a band go in the long term requires some homework between band members. You're musical influences might seem ok, but if you put on your favorite album and someone in the band pu-pus it outright, you might be up the creek in a year or two... Just be aware of reading body language.
It took me a long time to figure out one is not better than the other, they're just different.
Speaking of original music, A Troop Of Echoes just came out with a small digital EP from our demos we made a month ago. Not only do I play bass but I also engineered the thing, which is NOT an easy feat to do at the same time. Y'all can check it out here: http://atroopofechoes.bandcamp.com | This is very very helpful! Thank you Freaky Fender for the great advice! There's definitely a lot of stuff to consider with both covers and originals. It'll be something I'll really have to think about. And having good chemistry between band members will be a great thing, so reading body language is a key (I do have a hard time reading body language, it's part of a condition I have). But I'm sure it takes time to build up a healthy bond with a new band. Getting the material down is a must too, because in my old band, when one of us didn't have our parts down, we would all mess up. So I definitely understand that too. |

Do they say it in a way that sounds like they really DON'T want it? These are just things I've noticed while other friends of mine try and get bands together. I got lucky and found three dudes who loved Zwan (Billy Corgan's short lived other band) as much as I did, so it was clear there was common ground.
It's just surprisingly hard to get a band that you can fit with, you know? Not a lot of people realize that, hell a lot of MUSICIANS I know don't even know that.
Whatever you decide, make sure you're having FUN through it all. That will definitely help you get through any gig.

Crazy to see how much sand washed up onto the parking lot and 1A from Sandy. No damage like the damage I saw back home in NJ, though. Thank god there's no lines for gas here!

I went there for a jazz benefit show, and apart from it being in an iffy area I loved the venue. Hope it went well!

| | Minimalist in gear, not knowledge | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Providence, Rhode Island | | I'm new to the RI Bass Player's Club, but a 4 year TB member. I have a gig alert and a new club alert. My band, Jay Berndt & The Orphans, is playing at The Parlour (formerly The Penalty Box on North Main Street in PVD) on the Wednesday night before Turkey Day. Opening for Northern Lands (really great band). Both bands are alternating 2 sets each. The club is owned by former Living Room employees and it's going to be the new local music location for RI. It's going to be a huge, huge night. If you're a TB member, feel free to say hi and talk gear with me. I'll be the guy with the gold and black jazz style bass (see avatar). Cheers! |
