Hey vinny, have you been to trinity with your system before? I ran sound there a while back and found it very boomy sounding. Drove me nuts!

I have worked there a few times, besides the load in sucking *ss the club is fine.(waiting for the club to give you the all clear, then want the band on in twenty minutes)
I didn't have any issues with boom-ish frequencies.
I have started running the complete PA on one side in there (like I have started doing in many smaller rooms), it makes life much easier plus you get the added coupling effect of running both subs together.

Here is little Knuckleheads when I had my larger system stacked on one side:

Guys we're considering playing there, why does the load in suck?

Playing where? Trinity or Knuckleheads?
Both have the same issue, they are a restaraunt that wants to be night club.
So that means you have to wait for them to move tables out of the way (when people have finished eating) so that you can move your gear in and setup for the band.

At Trinity, it doesn't matter what time they allow you in, they don't want any noise before the band starts playing (no sound check) and even if you can't load in until 9:45, they still want the band to start at 10pm.......they think bands magically setup at the twirl of a magic wand.

Knuckleheads, although the same issue with the dinner crowd is much more relaxed. They understand that you need time to setup and only ask that you do the best you can on time.
They also love it LOUD in that little room, it's the only place I am asked if I could turn it up more!
And the doorman/bouncer is a cool guy that tries his best to clear the tables as quickly as possible to get the bands in to setup.

We've been talking to Trinity...but Knuckleheads seems like a place we can let our freak flag fly...Thanks for the input, enjoy the weekend gigs.

I meant to post this yesterday for obvious reasons...

5 year bump on this thread...

The Station Club Fire and Club Fire Safety Discussion: (now 10 years later).

I wouldn't mind if you guys bumped it or added your thoughts and input to it, it being L'il Rhody and all.

Good to see you around these parts again Thor...The Station fire is such a horrific tragedy and so sad for the family and friends of the victims as they have to relive their pain over again every February 20th. It was somewhat uplifting to see so much media attention paid to it over the last week, hopefully that will inspire others to get involved with the new memorial and learn from this disaster. But as witnessed in Brazil several weeks ago education is still the key to keep these terrible tragedies from happening again and again. The world needs to pay attention and learn from these senseless deaths.

Thanks man.

I hear ya. I am going to ask the Misc mods if it can be stickied there. I think its an important issue. Some people commented that they totally changed their attitudes about the conditions they play in after reading that thread.

I have seen some places in RIthat frankly scare me. The worst was a Dave Mason show at the Newport Blues Cafe in Newport RI. 2009 iirc. The show was tightly packed, SRO, and there is a second floor up there. The back exit was in the room next to the vault (it used to be a bank) and it was being used as a dressing room, so it was pretty muck blocked off by some roadies.

Bob Suzzi, Ronnie Giz (the guys who own the Guitar Sales and Service store in Warwick) were at the show with me. We stood right be the front door and pretty much couldn't move.

It was hot in there and Dave was sweating so much he sweat all over his custom stomp pedal and it smoked and shorted out. I just about crapped my jeans when that happened.

I'm sure they were WAY WAY over allowed crowd capacity in that place. The only reason we stayed was that we were right by the front door. And there was a boatload of hot cougars at that show, probably half the divorced bleach blonde soccer moms from East Greenwich for sure. That's a big part of the crowd he draws.

OT, I saw a much better show, and less crowded a few weeks later, Savoy Brown at the Blues Cafe. Kim Simmonds still absolutely kills on guitar. SB used to be a big headliner in the 70's, saw them in '72 at the Ocean State Theater (PPAC) with Fleetwood Mac second bill and John Baldry third bill. SB's bassist let me try out his US made Lakland, and gave me a free shirt to boot as I was a fellow bassist. I think his nephew is a TB'er, the guys name was Johhn iirc and he was out of NYC.

One thing really stuck out between those two artists. Dave Mason left the stage as soon as the show ended, and ran back to the dressing room and hid. Didn't greet anyone or sign anything. Kim, otoh, had an audience of mostly musicians. He stayed on stage after the show, signed merch and anything else people asked for, answered some technique questions on slide, and I even got up on stage with him and had my pic taken with him. What's cooler than that? He didn't leave until he greeted everyone and anyone that wanted to say hi. Awesome!

There is a lesson there somewhere.

Anyway, check in on that thread, and hop on HJY's site and buy a shirt or something. We lost a lot of good live music fans and friends, and they deserve to have the musical community honor them.

Also, I'd like to ask you to help make the places you guys work in here right in RI and MA safer by speaking up when you see unsafe stuff going down and reminding club owners and managers about fire safety and patron safety. I never want to ever have this happen around here again, and we are in a position as musicians to see a lot of things the average club patron wouldn't notice and the club manager neglects because cash is tight and he has had a few bad nights. Just my .02.
