Richard Finch had great tone - flats?

I love to listen to Richard Finch on the KC & the Sunshine Band recordings. His bass sounds like what I think a bass should sound like. An example is here:

Do you think he's using flats on his Jazz? I have a 2006 U.S. Jazz, but mine doesn't sound like that. Do you think he's using both pickups wide open? What replacement pickup do you think sounds most like Richard's tone in that clip?

flats and wide open on the bass. ya, ric finch was really good until he became a convicted pedophile and got 6 years in prison a couple weeks ago.
