What kind of basses does he play? They seem to have a metalwork design on them. Anybody know?

The bass I saw him playing was a fender p with what looked like a tooled leather pickguard.

Smokin' basses...

Lately I have been playing an '81 or '82 Fender Precision SPECIAL (Made In Japan) *sigh*, that I bought in a pawnshop when I was VERY hard-up for a bass as my two B3 Charvel's (Made In USA) were stolen. I have played thousands of shows with the Fender and it feels like a part of me. I have a little bit of a neg about the Zemaitis, as it is wider in the neck and the fret edges are rather high-profile and catch the flesh on my left hand as I'm sliding around... so, I keep it in the rack on tour and after I get the fret file to it, I will probably play it out again, as it IS a fine bass. I am leaning toward having two identical tour basses made in a custom shop in the Jazz bass tradition, sort of like Berry Oakley's TRACTOR basses. Massive soapbar pickup forward and two Jazz bass pickups in the rear. See you on the road.
