Yep...if you watch the movie it's obvious that it's overdubbed...he's all over the map in that movie...

Also note...This is one of the best music documentarys ever made...great movie...with great performances from a lot of great people...

Which one was that?

Hell, I usually dislike most musicians I end up playing with. But it's what happens on stage/on tape that matters.

No matter the chemistry I still view them as one of the greatest groups in history.

One of the reasons Rick Danko's style was unique was that on a fair amount of their material, he was approaching the bass parts from a tuba(ist)'s perspective. A Trad Jazz/Dixieland kinda thang. His round flat wound sound often sounded like tuba.

Yes, the Band's musical chemistry WAS fantastic and unique to them.
Even on some Emmy Lou Harris songs, the Band members are immediately identifiable and make the tune special. "Leavin' Lousiana in the Broad Daylight" for example.

A fave of mine too---great feel, melodic sense and tone. And definitely in the top 5 of my "bassists who sing great/play great bass simultaneously" list.

Actually, IMHO, you can't get that tone w/o using a pick.
