Rick was a great bass player and singer. Just think how adaptable those guys in The Band had to be in order to play with all of those different people.

Hell of a good songwriter too. The Band are one of my all-time favorites.
Rick and the Band have always been a huge influence on me! He had such a great feel on bass, and I think some of that came from being such an emotive singer. His vocals on 'It Makes No Difference' get me every time.

I can dig Rick Danko's work BUT with a very notable exception.
And that's when he plays his Fretless Ampeg Bass. I saw some footage of the Band performing "the Weight" on some Festival in the early seventies and Danko played fretless and every note he played was flat, just below or just above the notes he should've hit.
Danko, he was killer player but he shouldn't have bothered with the fretless.

a very good DVD, and i dunno if he sounded that flat to me, he did do a lot of sliding in that song, and i would suppose that everybody's ears lock into the tone at a different time
