Ricky Minor as MD/Sidekick?

What do guys think of Ricky Minor as MD for The Tonight Show?
It's interesting to see him become a sidekick for Jay Leno.
His playing is solid. I know Roger Sadowsky must be tickled to have two late night shows featuring his basses.

I haven't really seen him on the show, but I agree with your other points. I have a buddy who met him when he tried out on drums for one of the AI's top finishers and said he was super cool, laid back, but he didn't get to spend much time with him due to multiple projects he had going on all at one time.

I kinda like the bass player as leader thing. The bass is real prominent in the mix and the times I've seen so far Ricky is killin. He's still getting use to being the comic sidekick but Kevin wasn't exactly Eddie Murphy when he started either.

Yeah, these guys are serious musicians and it probably takes a bit to get used to being the comic foil. Might be one of the reasons Branford gave it up.

I'm not a big fan of Jay's show anymore. It's old and tired and therefore I don't see Rickey and can't comment.

As a musician, that stupid Singing Bee or whatever it was called, ruined it for me and Ricky Minor. Kevin Eubanks seemed to blend better with Jay.

Yeah, it's a shame that he has to play on Jay's show. Boycotting it for Conan.

From strictly a musical perspective, I like the new Tonight Show band much better than with Kevin & Co. They were so one dimensional, played the same 6 songs all the time, the girl singer/percussionist was not a good singer, and I never liked Kevin's playing. Although I did like Smitty's drumming. The new band seems to be much more well rounded with a more versatile sound and top notch players and singers.

I'm sure that Ricky is really suffering on this gig-but somebody has to do it!

Yeah, Team CoCo here, I'm afraid. Can't comment on Rickey's ability as the comic foil (haven't seen him), but I'm sure his band is killing it.

i like the guitarist a lot (and since it's al mckay jr. i'm not surprised since i was a huge fan of his dad in ewf). i could do without the rest of the band, though. great at funk, celine dion-style music that has no name, and show tunes. horrible with anything else.

Ricky's got the GROOVE with a good band, and steady income with Jay while it lasts.

Roger must be very pleased indeed! Ricky is front and center where as Will Lee is very seldom seen playing his Sady.

Paul Jackson, Jr. is the guitarist.
