RIP Erik Kleven--Sacramento Bass Legend

I was shocked to read on my local Craigslist that top Sacramento, CA bassist Erik Kleven was killed in a car crash on his way to a gig on Saturday.

Erik was the consummate pro bass player we all strive to be--tasteful, friendly, helpful. He always had a big smile when he played. Just a few days ago he was voted best Sacramento bassist in the local arts weekly. He was a master of bass guitar, upright, EUB, and tuba. Almost every time I saw him he played the same well-worn gold P-Bass. There are flashier bassists on the scene but Erik was the man when it came to grooving, in-the-pocket low-end lines. RIP, Erik. Thanks and goodbye!
