OMG!!! This is terrible news! Robert Wilson was quietly just as much of a trailblazer as Stanley Clarke or Anthony Jackson. His solos and detuning really raised the bar on what the bass could do in mainstream funk. I know Andrew Gouche counts him as major influence, that alone tells us how important Robert Wilson's recorded legacy is.

RIP.

robert wilson was one of my favorites for da funk. holy cow, what a talented dude. plus he had discipline, which is sorely lacking in a lot of young players. he would lay on the same riff sometimes for an entire song, never changing it. when the system wrote the song "don't disturb this groove," i think they were talking about him. he never once disturbed the groove to make himself look like the hero, and for that, he was a hero.

^^ THIS!

Sad day for funk. RIP, Robby.
You really couldn't listen to the Gap Band without dancing (at least a little bit in your chair).

'nother bass hero gone.

Rest In Peace Robert Wilson
If ever there was a funk equivalent of Star Wars "The Force", yet another void has been felt in it.
