Wow, sudden and surprising. He was still touring up until very recently.

I'm glad I got to hang out and chat with him. I told him the story of how, as a little boy, I used to fall asleep with a transistor radio under the pillow, my favorite AM station played "Temptation Eyes," and how big an influence his music was on me. He got a kick out of that.

I still consider it a good day when I can nail a Rob Grill vocal, even in the high register parts. What a smooth, perfectly radio-friendly pop voice.

RIP Rob.

Wow...that's a shocker. I saw the Grass Roots several times during the last decade and he always appeared bright eyed and healthy. I do suspect however that he didn't always play every tune live on bass, there were a few times when I saw the GR's that it appeared that the bass was tracked and he sought of bass-synced his way through the tune. None the less a great talent and a piece of my childhood left with him. Go sing high on that mountain Rob!

My band opened for Grass Roots last summer in NY. Rob was friendly, took pictures with us and his wife was also very sweet and hung with us all night. He sounded great and will definitely be missed.

About 10 years ago they played here in Manitowoc wi for a event at the Capital Civic Center and I help run sound and lights for them.
Rob was a class act all the way!
He more then likely forgot me as soon as he was on the plane, but I'll always remember how well he treated us Grunts!
RIP
Rob
