| | | | I'll start by saying that I think it's fine that there is a thread about a bassist's style. Sure this isn't GQ, but the occasional sartorial thread isn't going to kill TB. Beats the hell out of every other thread which states how underrated he is, and how incredible his tone is. (Disclosure: I completely agree he is both underrated and sounds incredible) It's just nice to see something a little different.
To me, he just doesn't take chances stylistically. He dresses...sharp I guess. I'm sure there are musicians out there that dress to the nines on a consistent basis however. So, no he's probably not the awesome-est dressed bassist. But he doesn't dress in an obnoxious manner either. |

One reason Robert doesnt get mentioned much is prolly due to his pbass tone sitting too well in the mix, it doesnt cut through as much as a good ol rick or ray
He wasnt one of my 'idols' when I first started playing simply because his lines doesnt stand out that much. It is only when Ive matured alittle as player did I appreciate his style.
'Tripping on a hole in a paper heart' has one of my favourite basslines

Honestly, I was trying to find more pics of him, but Google Images wasn't turning up much besides the recent black outfit. If you ever check out the No Way Out video, he has this cool urban cowboy thing going on. Whereas his brother always had kind of a mysterious Jimmy Page thing going on, I just always thought that the Robert just oozed class and bad-assness - something the bass world needs. Quote: |

'Tripping on a hole in a paper heart' has one of my favourite basslines | That's an interesting observation. I always dug how he sat in the mix between his brother's really harmonically complex guitar and Eric's huge drum sound. The bass and drums almost sound like one instrument in Wicked Garden. I read that when he was building his bass sound for Army of Anyone, he wanted to have a fat bottom like Jamerson but then have this aggressive top-end like Entwistle or Squire, which lead him to trying some experimental stuff.
IIRC, he did play a Ric on Art School Girl.

Maybe at this concert he was worried about getting sunburn?
Gotta agree with everyone else - I love his bass playing. |

He's got the tone, the chops, the look.
The total package and the real deal. |

His look always strikes me as kind of creepy, though. The aviator glasses have that cult leader/serial killer vibe about them. imo | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
