Some cat posted on Bassgear.com asking about Rocco's "condition". Anyone know what this is about ? Is he OK? I must admit, I saw him a few months ago with Tower, and he looked horrible. Very skinny, gaunt face, but a HUGE belly. Couldn't walk very well. A couple guys in the band had to help him up and down from the riser he was on.
Hope he's ok.

I just checked out bassgear.com and there's a new post that says Rocco is very sick and needs a new liver. I hope he's going to be okay.

Re: Rocco

Preface:
About 6 mos ago, a smaller jazz/fusion club here in LA (La Ve Lee) posted: "Appearing Thursday-Rocco
Prestia". I went, stoked about hearing Rocco in a small room.
The set opened with a 4-piece R&B band playing through some funk tunes- real good, but no Rocco-
After 3 numbers, they said: "Time to bring up a special guest, Rocco Prestia!"

Without going off the board, I want to say two things-
1) Rocco absolutely kicked total ass and took that good sounding band about 10 levels higher by virtue
of his incredible facility- His facility and chops were so ON I sat there with a sh**-eatin' grin and was blown away!

2) As I left the club during the break, Rocco waved in acknowledgement of my appreciation- Apparently, during a song, I think I yelled out real loud:
"IN THE ****IN' POCKET, MAN!, or something.
I think he got a kick out of that, and was very humble and appreciative of my enthusiasm.

At any rate, if any part of this buzz is true, I certainly know that all our prayers and good wishes are with him.
He is one of the great voices of the instrument.

I hope he gets a new liver without a hitch. The world can't afford to lose such a great bassist.

Maybe your thread title should be more descriptive to get more readers?

Rocco Prestia Medical Fund

As you may or may not know, Rocco Prestia, bass player for Tower of Power, is seriously ill and needs a liver transplant. The medical costs are astronomical and a fundraising website has been established. The site is fully functional and has lots of ideas on fundraising and spreading the word.

Please visit http://www.francisroccoprestia.com

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or any of the other regional volunteers listed on the site.

Thanks!!

Has SWR kicked in anything yet? He is one of their major artists. I e-mailed them but no response back. Maybe everyone should shoot them an e-mail.
I'm also trying to get Paul to add the donation banner here on TB. Maybe we need to make some noise for Rocco!

It is my understanding that the gear companies are either kicking in money or gear to be auctioned -- don't know any more than that right now. At this point, most of the money that has come in HAS been from the bass community!!!!! Keep spreading the word! If you check the "news" and "events" pages on the site, you'll see some good things going on.

Thanks,
Donna

I just received an e-mail from SWR saying that they were going to post the donation banner on the front page of the SWR website. And also that they have been helping Rocco out monthly over the past year. Kudos to SWR!

ok, a thread of mine was closed because THIS thread already existed-- so i will repost here-
Help Rocco- Win a Lakland

Rocco Prestia is one of my bass heroes- i think many of us share that feeling. i have met and hung with Rocco on several ocassions, he has always been warm and very friendly to me. I suspect he's that way to most people. Rocco needs a liver, I think we have all heard by now. What I am compelled to do and I have contacted his fund, is the following:
If you contribute $50 or more DIRECTLY to Rocco's fund, I have proposed that they enter your name into a drawing in which the giveaway will be a new Lakland 55-01 bass supplied by access-bass.
I await reply from the people at Rocco's fund, but they issued a challenge and I'm willing to contribute in this manner.. so if you give $50 or more, you could win a shiny new smokin' Lakland 55-01.. courtesy of access-bass.com - we owe a lot to Rocco, let's show what we as bass brothers are made of and help him get a liver.. what do you say??? We have lost too many greats recently, we need Rocco here to keep funking us all up!!! any questions- please email me at info@access-bass.com - peace!!!

http://www.francisroccoprestia.com/
that is the link to Rocco's fund- save a receipt and send it to Access-Bass 7956 W Quail Ave Las Vegas, NV 89113

and an update- hes out of the hospital, for now.. i plan to visit him maybe next week- i will send everyones love- your prayers are needed
