So I got a 5 string bass for last Christmas. Apparently my parents ordered a 4 string, but we got a 5 string. Lol.
Anyways, I want to be able to use that string. So any rock bassists that use 5 string basses? |

Korn and POD come to mind, but they're everywhere. What kind of music do you listen to?

EDIT: I should say that my 5th string is a low B. |

Seriously though, there are many people who play 5 strings now-a-days, they are widely accepted, except by ignorant purists. And, even by some of those

I believe John Moyer of Disturbed uses exclusively 5-strings.
Jason Newsted has played a 5-string for many Metallica songs ("Sad But True", for example).
Rob Trujillo uses 5-string basses a lot.
The Alter Bridge bassist uses one.
As I've said, they're everywhere.

Not to mention that there's plenty of great rock bands that use standard tuning, and when you hit that open E on the fifth fret of your B string, it sounds very full and awesome!

Jeroen from Obscura uses a 6, but you may be able to play some with a 5er, Cannibal Corpse. Simply for using the B string, Chevelle, Isis, Parkway drive, Drowning Pool. Here, I will make this easy. Here is a link to a Wiki page of bands that use B tuning. You should be able to play any of this stuff utilizing that raunchy low B. I love me a low B... B tuning - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At the moment I don't own a five string. I have in the past and would like to have another. Besides the ability to go below E, they give you the option of different hand positions than you can do with a four.
