That's cool, he did some cool stuff for parliament. I'm partial to Cordel Mosson (sp.?) myself. I saw him on the same show when Bootsy first toured with the Rubber Band. He tearing it up on a Rickenbacker 4001.

Saw Rodney with Maceo Parker.
Funky, finger, and slap.
Great player, used a Lakland 5-string.

Somebody was listening to Stanley Clarke. I love Bootsy but that was incredible!

I saw the All-stars years ago and he played the whole evening, no solos like that though!

The reason I started this thread is the song Groovallegiance off One Nation Under a Groove. It's a horrible song (IMO), but the bassline is great, then he goes into a solo that still works as a bassline, wow.

saw Rodney "Skeet" Curtis with Maceo Parker last night.

Maceo was in great form in front of a smallish but very enthusiastic crowd.
Rodney has (obviously) seen all of Maceo's antics before (a couple of times).

So his playing was professional and with great routine, but not particularly emotionally involved.

Looking at their tour schedule, I wonder how anybody can maintain that pace.
Really got to give maximum respect to Maceo, wow the ENERGY this man displays, puts others half his age to shame.

Rodney's stage rig (Mesa Mpulse 600 with Powerhouse 410115) didnt carry his Lakland 5 as good as I had hoped for. Not all that impressed. No way knowing if he wanted it that way or he just didnt care too much, as it sounded okay, but well, not great.

Still, how often do I get to see a show like that, shouldn't complain....

Overall, went home happy and half deaf... ( man, Bruno plays loud..... Maceo gave hime a couple of times "the look" )

Fun evening

I've seen George Clinton and the P Funk Allstars (with Rodney) 4 times going back to 1981. Get a copy of "P-Funk Allstars Live at the Beverly Theatre". It's hard to find and if you do it will be expensive. It was recorded around '90or so in L.A and is one of the best "live" recordings by P Funk you'll find. Rodney was on fire as was the whole band. Rodney is a different kind of bassist than Bootsy and Cordell. Rodney is funky but incorporates a lot of fusion type licks. He big on extended syncropated runs that pushes the time signatures. It adds another dimension to the funk. He's Definately my favorite P-Funk Bassist.

Yep. He can play the simplest thing and it compels me to get up and shake my booty. I like that.

As of 2010 he's my fave.

The woman who plays bass for Prince can do a perfect Skeeter. I can't tell them apart.

Man! Chambers may be the hottest in the world these days. He's not all that consistent but at his best he's great. Such power, speed, and musicality.

I like Groovallegiance. In fact I like every song on that album. Definitely one of my favorite albums by Funkadelic.

Another excellent disc. I really dig Maceo's band introduction.

Boogie and Skeet are like two different flavors of funk. Lige is flavorless.

Saw Skeet with Maceo last night in the Paradiso in Amsterdam. Amazing seeing this big motion- and emotionless guy making everybody move. Does some interesting runs and fills too.

Seems like the whole sound of the Maceo band is taylored around him. He fills an enormous amount of sonic space with a wall to wall sound.
