What album(s) did Roger play a RIC Bass? Was it Made in Japan? Didn't he play a P Bass on Machine Head?

There's been a bit of a discussion on this in this thread which might help.

Also some interesting links in this thread.

The whole thing gets confusing very quickly as it seems that RG didn't care for the 'stock' Rick/Marshall tone so started modding it pretty early on. The consensus seems to be that Machine Head is probably stock, but Made in Japan isn't.

I'd throw in the notion that the settings that got used in the hotel corridor for MH were likely to be different to those used on stage for MIJ, muddying the issue still further.

Pete.

I know. In the intro to Highway Star he slides up to the high G and does that rift to go back down it sounds awesome.
Machine Head came out right about about the tume I started playing Bass. I wore the record out figuring out all the bass parts (my record player only could adjust the speed a tiny bit so I never could quite be sure if the solo to Pictures From Home was right).
Spent many hours listening & 'trying' learning Glover's, Bruce's, Entwistle, & Berry Oakley, Humble Pie's Jerry Shirley' parts. Might have been a tad easier if I wasn't so high.

Helluva producer as well.

If you haven't heard it, seek out the 25th Anniversary re-issue of In Rock. RG's re-mixes of Speed King & Black Night will blow yer trousers off
