So i saw Mr. Waters and Mr. Mason perfrom Thursday, Friday and Sunday at the Hollywood bowl and i must say i was a little disappointed that they played everything just about exactly how it was on record.
another thing was from where i was ... not to be disclosed... it seemed as though they were off with the music .. everyone. Did anyone see the show and seem to see/hear this?
roger waters has been one of my favourite bassists always and nick mason is my without a doubt favourite drummer, i am disheartened that he needs another drummer with him though

I really enjoyed the concert, he did a good job, I dug the video screen in the back and the giant DSOTM thing lifted up by the crane. |

Sure wish those two could settle their differences and get back to making music together.

i agree. while Roger's show had much more tasteful gimics. All around i think David did a better job.
im more of a roger water's person though so this kind of disappointed me.

pink floyd is easily my favorite band. ive got a large collection from piper all the way to division bell.
the syd barrett floyd was crazy, but genius in its own way.
once waters started writing the band really became the prog band everyone knows. after the split it just wasnt there in my opinion. in either camp. i think rogers is a great songwriter, but without david gilmours guitars its just not quite right to me.
and with gilmour and the rest writing without waters it still just isnt quite it.
i just wish they would reunite.

But... after live 8, can you honestly blame him? I don't know if he was sick or what, but he absolutely croaked through that show. |

lipsynching? come on.... he did sound bad at live8 but then again he hadn't been on the road for a few years before that show. he's not trying to hit some of the notes he used to and he has a huge army of backup singers to help with a lot of it now. his voice was not perfect last nite but he sounded good. didn't sound at all like lip syching or auto-tune. |

Anyways, there was DEFINITELY NO LIP SYNCHING going on. He didn't even sing half the time. He had other vocalists who sounded much better than him. When he did sing, you could tell that he was straining; he looked exhausted but enthusiastic.
If it would've been lip synching they would've made it sound better.
The music was awesome; but to tell the truth, I was expecting more 'show' (since Floyd is known for that, plus the price of the tickets). The inflatable pig was about the only prop they used, and it's a much smaller one than the one I saw on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour.
Still, I'm glad I went...very faithful reproductions of the tunes (11 people on stage plus backing tracks). THe guy who played Gilmour's solos was awesome, he had everything down, the bending style, vibrato...you could tell he did his homework. |

i was impressed with the guy doing the gilmour solos but i think they shoulod have stuck with caron (keyboardist) doing more vocals. on the "in the flesh" dvd he does gilmour spot on. i like caron's voice a lot. i dug snowy white's les paul tone A LOT too. |

I know heīs doing it quite good... i donīt want to argue about this... but itīs the reality.
You didnīt notice him lip synching because heīs doing a fine job... he got used to it... but the most important.. you CANīT notice if he is LS'ing or not if you are there, at the venue... unless you are 10 feet from him.
He is using vocal tapes from previous tours (Pros and cons and Radio Kaos) and thatīs why you can hear a much younger Roger singing songs like HAVE A CIGAR, SHEEP, etc.
The other songs he LSynhcs are Fletcher memorial (vocals from the origianl studio version, except the speech .."ladies and gentlemen please welcome..")
Partially LS on Shine on, and Time.
And also LS on Bring The Boys Back Home.
You still donīt believe ?
Download this video... http://www.icy-blue.com/afg/Roger%20...0A%20Cigar.avi
Get the complete version of Rock in RIo DVD 2006, Cork DVD 2006.. or get a few of all the ROIOS and compare the same songs from different shows.. and youīll see iīm right.
regards !

And like I said before, if they were using vocal tracks, I would've thought they would've used better sounding ones. It did NOT sound like the Roger Waters of old. Rather, it sounded like an old Roger Waters. |

he did sing "have a cigar" on tuesday but it certaintly did not sound like a younger roger waters. it sounded like someone who has altered his singing to accomodate the fact that he doesn't have the voice he once did. nothing wroing with that just a simple fact. his voice trailed off during certain songs, he didn't even try to hit certain notes, and sometimes the volume coming from him was uneven. all trademarks of someone who is really singing. and with his army of backup singers it seems like "help" is not really needed in any other form.
it's probably clear we could debate this forever so i'm sticking with my opinion |
