RON CARTER INTERVIEW IN BASS PLAYER!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I found one of my 2003 Bass Player magazines and re-read a very interesting feature article on the legendary Ron Carter. He has great insights regarding playing the upright properly, getting a good sound and how he feels about some upright and electric bassists. Here's the link to the online article:

If you get the new BP with Meshell Ndege'Ocello on the cover, there's another excellent article on Ron Carter. Hard to believe he's 70 now.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Carter down at The Blue Note in NYC Aug.'83 and he was kind enough to sign my copy of Bass Player. Tone for days......

Awesome interview. I especially like this:

"That’s not my job. My job is to make other people sound better than if I wasn’t standing there, and to do that with respect to them and their music, while trying to maintain as much of me as the job will allow. So I don’t sit around and think, Where am I in the scope of things? I just don’t do that."

An interesting fact that I just found out reading it: he and I share the same birthday.
