1972 vid of Ronnie Lane playing his Zemaitis bass in Faces.
IMO, he's got a fantastic bass tone that fits this song (Stay With Me) very well IMO. I can't quite make out what bass amp he is playing through, but my guess would be an Ampeg SVT with some nice warm power tube saturation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtqF0qBqzZo
What a great bass player he was! His playing fits the song perfectly, IMO.

I have always admired Mr. Lane's bass playing. And he sure has some nice sounding grit going on in that vid.

ANd yep, that's a Blue Line B-15N behind him in those BBC clips, although for bigger shows he used a huge wall of SVT's.

I always have felt that particular tune (along with Tumblin' Dice by the Stones) was among the greatest rock tunes of all time... attitude, groove, guitar hooks, etc. Awesome to actually see it performed! |

Watching that clip, I find it hard to picture Rod doing that Great American Songbook bag he's into now.

I finally understand the 'Small Faces' and the 'Faces' thing, wich always confused me a bit. Worth the time if you are interested in that era. |

Small Faces' 'Tin Soldier' makes my all time great tunes list.
Now, if I could only learn what amp was used for 'I Can Hear the Grass Grow' :-)
