RS Magazine omits bassists??

Sign in to disble this ad
Maybe it's just me and I'm probably too sensitive, but I was leafing through some of my old and recent Rolling Stone magazines the other day and came upon a pattern. Pretty much all the concert/studio/small gig photos of rock bands omit the bassist. And if they don't they either show him way in the background, very far away or twisted to an angle where he looks like he's playing a guitar, as I noticed of a recent shot of Geddy Lee. It's almost as if bassists are lepers or persona non grata in their music world.

But to be fair, I have seen plenty of up close shots of drummers and keyboardists over the years. Are we going the way of the White Stripes in music? So confused.

Rolling Stoned ceased being relevant a looooong time ago. It is really just a political rag at this point anyway. Anything dealing with music is an afterthought.

guitardefector,

Welcome to the world of bassists! You will now also notice that in live performances, the bass player can be in the middle of a solo and the camera is still on the guitard player doing some little fill riff. You never see bass players, hell even some of the footage from Rush and The Who has too much Alex and Peter when Geddy and Entwistle are tearing a whole in the cosmos!

Add to that, when you play out, it is the bass line that gets all the women are shakin their money makers. But they all wanna go home with the guitarist!

I would hesitate to use the phrase "very good bassist" in any association with my name
