I think I should stop being so self conscious about the band. Just got a random compliment from the one band that confirmed. We just need to bite the bullet and put our money up for recording. Or figure out a better way to record ourselves...

Tons of fun, the guitarist had a song ready to go that sounded killer, got to get a feel for the chemistry and jam things out a bit. I just brought my PT Mini with my tuner, HPF-PRE and a few dirt pedals and used his Fender Roadworn Precision and an old Univox head into an Ampeg 810. Not the loudest rig, but it got the job done for jamming. If we start practicing on the regular I'll get something set up that will rattle the walls. Hopefully we get some momentum built up and keep things moving, because I'm digging it so far.

First practice with the 2x18, so much more bass. And the mole makes for massive lows, but cuts out too treble. I think I may lose the volume and see if I can put my ODB-3 back on with the mole still on. Use the ODB-3 for another always on, and use the mole as a "More Heavy" switch because it absolutely obliterates with the 2x18s. Got some success with the CC tonight. Mix at 11, Regen 2, Time 3, just added a good sonic background, like a cesspool of swurling bass.
Ah the ever long chase for one's tone in their head.

Do it! that is the only way we know how to record. we tried tracking seperately and it sounded like crap. We feed off of each other too much and it just did not soumd like us. |

We've tried live recording and then single tracking/replacing guitar, bass, and vox with some success. Only leaving drums that we isolated. Put drums outside on wooden deck watching/listening through sliding glass doors. Sounded cool but was a huge PITA.
Even in the middle of the day, neighbors were not amused.

I really like what they're doing (here's their bandcamp with an EP they recorded http://stbarthelemystemple.bandcamp.com/), the only thing that scares me is the "black metal" riffs (like at 1:42 in Beyond Thaumiel, don't know the proper english term). I'm not used to playing this fast and I find it a bit hard to sound "clean" at this tempo. Guess I'll have to practice this particularly, at worse I'll switch to a pick for these songs

If it's clean at any speed it'll help fill out the mix. If it's messy just make sure you stop on time. |

Practice (of course right?), also I have found that a good set up, and the right tension/gauge strings really improved my clean/fast playing.

The E string doesn't feel too loose and I find the setup to be fine.
In fact I can play it right, but not long enough on certain songs without feeling my arm starting to cramp. Guess I'll just keep practicing !
