Thinking of checking it out. Seems overpriced. Guy doesn't know year, model, ohms, or even if its guitar or bass. What say the all-knowing doomers?
Ehh. It's not gonna sound too good for bass. Those angled baffle cabs don't really have the internal volume to get decent low end out of them.

Good to know. Again, talkbass is better than Google.

the amp should be monolith, and the verb/delay/fx loop unit should be dimensions....

I hope calling it monolith doesn't bite you... Could be a bad taste for people not following this thread.

I think I should stop being so self conscious about the band. Just got a random compliment from the one band that confirmed. We just need to bite the bullet and put our money up for recording. Or figure out a better way to record ourselves...

Screw that. He should call it monolith to erase the memory of the previous one.

Just had a last minute jam session for the new startup band, full volume with the drummer. Tons of fun, the guitarist had a song ready to go that sounded killer, got to get a feel for the chemistry and jam things out a bit. I just brought my PT Mini with my tuner, HPF-PRE and a few dirt pedals and used his Fender Roadworn Precision and an old Univox head into an Ampeg 810. Not the loudest rig, but it got the job done for jamming. If we start practicing on the regular I'll get something set up that will rattle the walls. Hopefully we get some momentum built up and keep things moving, because I'm digging it so far.

Since we are all giving Ron some love...

The beginning is the sole inspiration to the intro of Shadows...Ron its a fvcking killer beginning to a song. Like an explosion that you bask in the aftershock, then another bomb hits, and then another.

First practice with the 2x18, so much more bass. And the mole makes for massive lows, but cuts out too treble. I think I may lose the volume and see if I can put my ODB-3 back on with the mole still on. Use the ODB-3 for another always on, and use the mole as a "More Heavy" switch because it absolutely obliterates with the 2x18s. Got some success with the CC tonight. Mix at 11, Regen 2, Time 3, just added a good sonic background, like a cesspool of swurling bass.

Ah the ever long chase for one's tone in their head.

Do it! that is the only way we know how to record. we tried tracking seperately and it sounded like crap. We feed off of each other too much and it just did not soumd like us.

And to me, that's what sets Doom, and Monobrow in particular apart. Nothing like the feel of a band really laying it down!

We had talked about live tracking, but since we're using a DIY approach with a portable station and no studio, we'll likely end up close-mic'ing and separate tracking everything.

+1

We've tried live recording and then single tracking/replacing guitar, bass, and vox with some success. Only leaving drums that we isolated. Put drums outside on wooden deck watching/listening through sliding glass doors. Sounded cool but was a huge PITA.

Even in the middle of the day, neighbors were not amused.

Hi guys ! I've decided to try out for the doom band that asked me to play for them after my last gig.

I really like what they're doing (here's their bandcamp with an EP they recorded http://stbarthelemystemple.bandcamp.com/), the only thing that scares me is the "black metal" riffs (like at 1:42 in Beyond Thaumiel, don't know the proper english term). I'm not used to playing this fast and I find it a bit hard to sound "clean" at this tempo. Guess I'll have to practice this particularly, at worse I'll switch to a pick for these songs

You can usually get by playing at half the tempo. If it's clean at any speed it'll help fill out the mix. If it's messy just make sure you stop on time.

If you want to play that with out a pick it is perfectly do-able. Practice (of course right?), also I have found that a good set up, and the right tension/gauge strings really improved my clean/fast playing.

Yes I've been practicing on this for about a week now and I've seen the progress.
The E string doesn't feel too loose and I find the setup to be fine.

In fact I can play it right, but not long enough on certain songs without feeling my arm starting to cramp. Guess I'll just keep practicing !
