I just prefer to get my color from my amp, effects, the bass, and the technique I use. Instead of fighting the limitations of the cab I am using, I get to explore the capabilities of the rest of my gear. Add to that its fvcking loud, and it carries rooms better than any other cab I have used.
Just my preference.

I told him it only worked if it was that way. |

Unless you often play clubs with soundpeople who have mics to spare and love doing more work.
Even getting them to mic one cab is a struggle, I've found. And when they do, they often use a stupid kick drum mic. |

Also, do you have to do drugs?
I like the music but I don't really fit the demographic.

I like the music but I don't really fit the demographic. | How old is too old? Dead.
Do you have to do drugs? No.
Demographic? Pfft! There's no dress code here; at least none I've been made aware of!
Welcome to the thread!

If soundguys insist on DI i use my JDI and take the signal from the speaker output of the amp and i ask the sound guy to cut the highs above 4k. that helps get rid of the bees. if we are the headlining band then i dont feel bad and insist on a mic. i bring my own and its the first thing i set up. they get the hint and most will accomodate. however be careful if the slap a kick drum mic on there you may want to go the DI route with a LPF. An SM57 isnt bad but you do lose some of the beef. i think investing in a good DI and mic are just as important as the rest of your gear and always bring my own.

I like the music but I don't really fit the demographic. | The "demographic" thing is total BS. i am willing to bet that most people playing stoner/doom are not a bunch of stupid high kids. if anything, stoner/doom players seem to be some of the most intelligent musicians around. |

I like the music but I don't really fit the demographic. | I'll be 50 in May, and don't drink, do drugs or even smoke.
I'm still younger than Geezer, so I guess I stilll fit.
Stoner/Doom is a state of mind |

Any of you guys have pushback? | Typically if a sound guy DI's me, I just make sure everyone in the crowd can hear my cab. I'm pretty certain when I get DI'd there's not a whole lot of me in the PA anyways. One easy way around being DI'd is to always bring your own mic. Quote:

Morning Doomers. More unpacking last night. I went and started arranging my gear so I can play some this weekend. My wife was mortified to see that I turned her sewing room into a practice room as well but it had to be done. I set it up then was like "look honey, it looks like this belongs here doesn't it?". The look was priceless, but I think she agreed .
I rarely if ever get to smoke but I try to give my support for legislation whenever possible. Even when/if it gets nationwide acceptance I would only use it for pain and special occasions. Some people have this conception that if it's legalized we'll just sit around high all day and do nothing... for me it's more of a personal freedom issue and the fact that outlawing any plant is just stupid. I'll give it until the next election, then probably be Colorado bound.
