This might be better suited for the DB side, but he plays electric too. Anyway, I saw this guy play last night at what should have been an Esperanza Spalding show (she has the flu). The guy kills!! He can accompany a vocalist without a problem and had absolutely burning solos that stole the show IMO. He had the Ray Brown licks, Dave Holland style playing, and his own unique feel that's amazing. From what I've read he's based out of NY/LA, anyone else digging him?

Sam is from Reno. When I was the trustee of the musicians union there I got to meet him and hear him play many times. He was in a great trio with bass, drums and sax. I remember telling him that he needed to get to a bigger city with the jazz chops that he had.
