Me me me!
I'm in San Diego. Clairemont to be more specific. I grew up here and just bought a house a year ago which is great 'cause now I can break all my gear out and have jam sessions at the house.
I'm 38 and single (borderline old guy) and I'm primarily a guitarist with over 25 years of experience and around 20 years of bass playing, plus some keys and drums thrown in just for fun. Although I generally consider myself a guitarist more than anything I find that as of late I'm being far more bass minded. I tend to pick up my bass more now than my guitars. Hmmm wonder what that means?
Lets see for bass stuff I've got an Ibanez SR506 from way back (needs new electronics), a 2009 Squier P-Bass special in the satin walnut finish, and a 2008 Carvin LB76 (avatar). For amps I have a late 90's Fender Bassman 60 1x12 combo, a Warwick Blue 1x12 combo, and my newly acquired Carvin BX1500 and BRX 4x10 Neo cab.
I started off listening to things like Iron Maiden, Fates Warning, and Queensryche, but I also got into the heavier stuff like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. Now days its more Dream Theater, Opeth, Kamelot, Nightwish, and Meshuggah. I also dig Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Dave Matthews Band, Alterbridge, ZZ Top, Rush and Seal. Starting originally on violin I grew up listening to a lot of film score stuff as well such as John Williams (Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Etc...) David Arnold (Independence Day, Stargate) and that whole scene. Yeah I'm kinda all over the place.
I've done the San Diego club thing although it was around 10 years ago with an all originals hard rock band. Today I'm not in a band but would love to be in one just to play out and have some fun again. I have no illusions of stardom and would play just about anything at this point as long as the set list is diverse and interesting to both listen to and to play. Originals, covers, metal, rock, or even trying to fake jazz. Even though I'd mostly be in a band just to enjoy it, it doesn't mean I'd be slack @$$ with it. I take being in a band pretty seriously. It's fun, but there's also a business aspect of things like not being flakey and learning your parts. You know the usual peeves we all have.
So we can't be talking without pics so here goes:
Semi-recent pic of me in my jam room. I have since picked up the BX1500 bass head and the Squier P-Bass.
Room shot (white Carvin guitar rig is mine, the black one belongs to my friend Ernie)
Wall of noise (past set up)
The "Blue Beast" Carvin LB76 in DTS Blueburst over quilt, dual HB pickups with 18v preamp, no inlays and 5 piece laminated neck. This thing weighs a ton but man will it shake your fillings loose
Pic from a recent weekend jam/BBQ/pool party at the house and only pic I can find of my P-Bass special. I cleared out the living room furniture, and brought down all the gear. I had about 20 people at the house (including some gals) and we butchered quite a few songs! Great fun.
L to R: Carvin XB76F fretless, Carvin LB76, Squier P-bass special (still had the plastic wrap on it), Carvin HF2 walnut top, Carvin C66T mahogany body quilt top, and an older 90's Carvin DC135. The XB and DC belong to my friend Matt.
So hows that for gear smut? Enjoy and I look forward to seeing who else is here around town.
