Any word on maybe another GTG?
Haven't heard of any updates on GTG's specifically for us San Diegans. Hopefully we'll get another one soon. Last one was really cool. Bass San Diego was a great host, hopefully they'll be willing to do so again next time we've got enough interest.

Very cool. Come and say hi if you have the chance. I'll have to check our setlist, it's usually drawn up the day of the gig, lol.

Nova Scotia eh? It's beautiful out there, I hear. Is your move job related?

Welcome to SD BarStarz!

And as Unrepresented mentioned, Bass San Diego hosted an awesome GTG last year.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions/news about a new SD GTG?

This place is kind of dead. Not too many people from San Diego here.
I've been back and forth between Daygo and New Jersey. I think I'm staying home (SD) for a while.

Now, why the hell would I move from San Diego to Nova effing Scotia if I wasn't contractually obliged. I guess the bitterness comes out in that sentence, doesn't it. Ah well, another 5 years and I'll be back.

One of the things I'll miss most is having a great resource like Bass San Diego. Can't say I've been too impressed by the local music scene, however. We spent a week in Halifax looking for a new house - the place is hopping with great live music.

Hasta cinco anos.

.
Yup - I hear ya. I grew up a LITTLE west of there - Toronto. Great live music scene. In Orange County where I recently moved from . . . well a fellow musician summed it up best - "if drunk people like you, you'll do okay." I'm beginning to think the SD scene is similar, but that's okay.

I think the old saw is true - in places where the weather is crappy, "indoor" culture and music fluourishes . . . what else you gonna do when it's 30 below?

Thank goodness I'm a shallow hedonist . . . I'll take a day at the beach over a Bach Revival any day . . .

What's a good place near Central San Diego (Tierrasanta, Serra Mesa, Clairemont, etc) to get a good set up?

I'm usually in San Diego when I'm not at Groom. Here's a pic of James playing my Drozd. His band played a couple times at my company's Holiday Party. He is one of the nicest people you'd want to meet, much like I assume his brother to be. Monster chops, too. Cool folks all around.

The Repair Zone at 8125 Ronson Road, # B gets real good reviews. I've had George at Bass San Diego do a couple of mine, and they play like butter. Also Top Gear in La Mesa on University does excellent work.

One more in the SD area here (Spring Valley). I've been here for 2 1/2 months now. Kinda limited on gear right now.. Fender MB-5, Eden WT400B, SWR Goliath Jr 8-ohm. Not much, but it'll get the job done. Cab may be up for trade soon.

Glad to see the other bass players here in S.D. I'm in Escondido/San Marcos. And I'll vouch for The Repair Zone. They modified my G&L's with ideal results.

Open mic / open jams?

I'm visiting the San Diego area for a couple weeks and looking for recommendations for an open mic or open blues jam to check out. I'm in a blues band back home in Seattle and like to drop in on open jams there whenever possible.

I'm kind of in the north county area for the next two weeks, but pretty much anywhere is OK if the vibe is good.

Reply or PM me if you know of any good regular jams in the area.

Thanks!

Another San Diego bassist here. Transplanted from Maryland, going to school at Balboa. School has been intense for the past 8 months, but fortunately start clinicals soon.

Would be great to meet up sometime and meet some other bassists!

Also transplanted to SD from Maryland by way of the US Air Force. I'm in school at National and live right by the Alvarado Medical Center.

Agreed, both Fred(Repair Zone) and George do great work, never been to Top Gear though. I'm not sure how I missed this thread either, I've been in SD since winter of 96...
