...as well as 10 Years, Sevendust, Puddle of Mudd and Shinedown, but the standout bass tone was by far Dean and his trio of Thunderbirds into his Mesa rig. It was beyond beefy and thick. I love my Spectors and all, but just, wow. On the last 2 records that he's done with the band his tone has been great IMO, but how well it translated live was just amazing.
I really want to know what OD and settings he's using, as he had multiple tones and varying levels of dirt going on. No way it's just or EVEN an ODB-3! Was on the wrong side of the stage to catch a peek though. |

I used to be a heavy TS user and I never came close to such beef! |

It's mostly how Dean hits his strings. Vena Sera was a P-Bass and Sci-Fi Crimes was an Ibanez BTB. As far as distortion, you're mostly hearing his Mesa Big Block 750 (Live and studio). Oh, and Dean has a KILLER custom all-black thunderbird, 35" scale. |

I dunno if you could get that much beef, even from a P, as he does on Vena Sera. And a BTB? Rly?
I know he uses the ODB3 and then a vintage V-4 to offset the 750 in the studio.
He does have some sweet T-birds for sure. It makes sense that he'd get them in 35" scale for their tunings. I love his tone for their 3 piece, but add in another guitar and more sequencing and it'd be a little buried, IMO. |

Yes, a P-Bass and a BTB. He has never used the Thunderbirds in studio.
And at least on Sci-Fi Crimes, he did not use the Boss. It was either the MXR M80 or a Sansamp PSA-1 into the V4. The 750's overdrive was also used a bit.
The only Thunderbird that is 35" scale is the all black one. He got it after the newest record was done (because he preferred the 35" scale of the Ibanez).
But like I said, Dean will sound like himself no matter what he plays. It's how he attacks the strings.
