Stanley Clarke played the show as part of the Cark/Duke Project. I had seen Stanley Clarke before, but not since around 1988 or 1989. I think he mainly used his piccolo Alembic for electric stuff, although he did use another bass for songs when he was playing extended solos. One nice thing about their nintey minute set was that it featured an extended acoustic segment. He did a pretty flashy version of 'Spanish Phases for Strings and Bass" off his first solo record. The band they had was pretty small, just Clarke, Duke, another keyboardist and a drummer. They got a big sound though and the end of the show really featured some of thie pop hits. They even covered Parliament's "Mothership Connection" and some Sly. Clarke was definitely in fine form and I was actually able to get him to autograph a CD after the show. I am happy to say that Stanley Clarke is just as impressive now as was when I first heard him thirty years ago.
