Saw Will Lee with Hirum Bulock here in Detroit at the Jazz Fest.
Charley Drayton was on drums and Patrice ?????something???? on keys/voc/sax.

Also recorded it on my MiniDisc.
Free outdoor festival means I brought my good mics and got a good recording. (If it's free and in a general public area with no access limitations means they can't stop you! )

Anyway, great show. Weather sucked. Drizzle and chilly.

Get this, Will was playing a Lake Placid Blue Lakland JO.

It will be a few days before I can dump it from my MD to my computer.
I didn't do it to sell or any stuff like that, I may throw around a few copies of it.
But not knowing how they feel about things like that, doing so may be the fastest way to ruin it in the future.

Will did take a small solo, but you could tell they were having a hard time. It was cold and wet out. In between each tune they were blowing on their hands and putting them in their pockets.

Maybe I'll post up the clip of his solo when I get it dumped down.

Was it Patrice Rushen?
Can we hear some tunez?
How is Uncle Will these days? Did he sing much, if at all?

I'd glad to see it when players that aren't close to NYC get to see Uncle Will.

Weird to hear of Will playing a Lakland - he's usually seen around NYC with a LP blue Sadowsky which is pretty much never seen on Letterman.

Sounds like Katreese Barnes was on Sax Keys from Sat Night Live. Sister of Bassist Jerry Barnes both great songwriters

He has a couple of Laklands that he pulls out on occasion.

I can understand Will Lee using Lakland. The man started his career on a passive Fender, so I can see him going "home" from time to time, and Lakland's passive basses are some of the best out there IMO.

I saw Will Lee a LOT in NYC in the 70's, and almost always with his passive P-bass, always great!

Last year when he was here he played a Yamaha BB looking bass.
Goofy purple-ish color and all!
And he still sounded like Will Lee!
