Jack Bruce would have to be number one, but Alan Gorrie should be the ranked the number one Scottish r&b bassist because the man is funky!

I really dislike Cream, so I'll vote for anybody BUT Jack Bruce.

Jack the Bruce.

He happens also to be my main man for Bass overall. All due respect to Jaco. et al...

But Jack's work is SO much more than Cream.

Hands down it's gotta be Jack, with Alan coming in second.

I got to go with the majority and say Jack Bruce. I owe much of my playing and singing style to him.

Well, I am not a Scot so I won't be voting. Being an Arkansan I don't feel qualified. But if I were a Scot I'd be voting for Jack, of course. Derek Forbes would be a close second.

Exactly--he's best known for being in Cream over 40 years ago, but he has been recording and touring quite steadily over the last 4 decades, with some truly outstanding output! His work with producer Kip Hanrahan is some of my favorite.

I'd vote Tony Butler from Big Country into the sixth spot! Personal fave is Derek Forbes regardless of nationality. But yes ... the real question is who will place second to the man with two first names!

EDIT: Oooops .... Tony Butler is from London! Search and then type ... I'll never learn!!

Although he's not as famous as Jack Bruce or Derek Forbes - I'm voting for the great Ewan Vernal (Deacon Blue, Capercaillie).

Saw him a couple of times playing for Deacon Blue at Wembley Arena in the late 80's / early 90's - excellent bassist.

Cheers,
Essexbass

What about Pete Agnew? Good bassist.
Probably a good Scotsman as well.
