I've been listening to "Down The Wire" which is a solo tune by Scott Ambush. Does Anybody know of any great Spyro Gyra tunes which feature his bass solo's or slapping? I only know of a few but I know there are many. The live version of "Shaker Song" has a pretty cool solo. His bass tone is just awesome IMO and he seems to get very little attention compared to a lot of other players.

There are a few tunes where he's slapping but it's mostly subdued as he plays for the song. There is a live version of 'Nothing To Lose' floating around that has a good 6-7 minute bass solo where he's starts out finger style and goes into a slap barrage! One of the best solo's I've ever heard. I have the song somewhere on one of my many external HD's. If I can find it, I'll post it.
I agree, he does seem to fall under the radar probably due to him not feeding into the personal youtube craze so if folks don't know him, the won't seek him out. He's definitely a world class player and even builds his own basses!

There might be some people out there that know if songs that have little bass highlights in them. That is what I'm looking for or even other artist's that he has recorded with where his bass stands out.

+1. That whole CD "Good To Go Go" is hot (well I didnt really dig the reggae tune #2). He makes that CD though. Now I have to do some Spyro Gyra back tracking.

If you haven't heard it then check it out. His tone and licks on that tune are awesome. One of my favorite bass player tracks to listen to.

I hear you though. I think Jay just doesn't have quite enough soul. Still, Spyro Gyra is one of the best bands that can delve in and out most any style music and do it authentically! And Scott can play any style!

How about that amazing salsa track where Ambush incorporates slap? And those amazing horn lines...
I think it's called Para Ti. Quite amazing!

That's a bad@$$ tune! I've seen Scott play that many times. Dude is truly world class. More folks should know who he is. |

M | I know about his basses (almost ordered one once) but I have never played one. Didn't get one because at the time I did not want a 35" scale. I heard they play very nice though..

Playabilty on 35" basses varies... I'll leave it at that. Except to say that Scott's neck are unique IME. Nothing feels or plays like an Ambush. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
