Had the pleasure of hearing and meeting Scott Ambush and Spryo Gyra last night. I had gotten him a K&K Bass Master Pro for his upright and he's delighted with it -- saw that he was going to be appearing at the Trump Marina casino in AC and he was kind enough to have us (my bassist son and our wives) as his guests.

It was a great show and I thoroughly enjoyed the band. I hadn't heard much of Scott and was incredibly impressed with his command of the instrument - he played fretted and fretless fives and an Azola Bug Bass. You may not know but he builds his own basses and also for others: http://www.ambushbass.com - beautiful and wonderfully even sounding basses from top to bottom. Graphite necks and gorgeous flamed sunburst bodies.

The highlight for me was the "bass and drum solo" which was a selection where everyone left the stage and left them to do their thing, individually and in combination. Scott has all the pyrotechnics of Victor Wooten, and yet retained a solid groove and lots of musicality, not just percussion. I wish I had a tape of it.

Check their site for dates - http://www.spyrogyra.com/ - I urge you to check them and Scott out.
