Scott Palmer, the bassist of John Brown's Body, an internationally acclaimed reggae group from Ithaca, NY, died of cancer on June 7th, 2006. This is a sad day for many of us true fans of the band, and true fans of Ithaca music scene. Mr. Palmer was a monster bassist with a killer rig that landed one of those dream gigs about 5 years ago.
In the past year or so, the band has truly exploded, going so far as playing on the Dave Matthews Cruise on top of a continent spanning national tour and massive billboard success in the Reggae category.
The best image I could find off hand. |

I've sat on the board at a couple of shows and as a joke asked the sound guy to pull him completely out of the mains in most clubs it made no difference.IE he was barely in them. He had a CA9 and in the end was using a pair of berg nv215's.There was a 610/215 phase for a while. I forget what pre, maybe a Demeter. Direct to the board with a Avalon. He played mercilessly loud on stage I allways felt bad for the horn guys.
Bass wise the Inca silver 55-94 was a huge bass for him. It's a early one right when Bass player did the five sting shoot out (94?).I remember it was the first Inca Lakland and Dan had to find a painter just for it. Palmer really wanted Inca because he had a 77/78 Music Man, inca. It had the stock bartilini's, Scott loved barts even had them in a 64 "frainken" jazz( I gave him crap for that every time i saw it). At the end there was a JO5 I don't know as much about. I remember Him digging a skyline and ordering a USA the I don't think I ever saw. Strings wise it was allot of ground wounds and lakland flats.

| | | | Thanks Andrew. I had seen him about 6 yrs. ago w/ Slightly Stoopid and he had a Berg NV215 and a demeter/crest setup w/ the Inca Lakland. He is the reason why I bought my 1st NV215 and my 4-94's. He had a tone from the heavens. What a monster player. Much Respect and love for him
Thanks

What kind did you go with? I've been thing about going that route again on one of my basses. I have only used the D'Addario with i tough were ok but allot of guys on this board don't like them so I wonder what else to try.

I had the chance to see these guys in a real small bar in Va probably 2001ish.. I think he was using the ol Ampeg fridge at the time...I was just getting somewhat serious into bass at the time and man he had the place shaking...
