Scott Shiflett

I searched, and couldn't find a thread dedicated to one of my favorite bassists from the last 20 years, Face to Face's Scott Shiflett.

It seems like whenever punk or "pop-punk" bassists are brought up, Mike Dirnt and Matt Freeman get a lot of mention, but I've always preferred Scott's playing. Granted, Face to Face never really gained as much mainstream popularity (I mean they only sold a million records...), but I've always liked his lines and fills. Nothing too scorching, but here's a few of my favorites...

A f2f classic from their '98 live album with some great Scott fills:

A really fun to play line off their '96 self-titled album:

A riff I've used to warm up with for the past decade or so:

And finally, Scott holding it down live when they were a 3 piece, with some nice improv during the breakdown:

I really love Scott's playing too. It's so honest & deceptively simple sounding. I tried teaching myself "Walk the Walk" today. Well, now I know where the notes are, but I may never play them with his apparent ease.

But, yeah, as evidenced by the fact that it took over two years to get a reply on this thread, he's not as well known as he should be.

I have to admit that Scott is one of the absolute best bass players ever...I love Face to Face and Scott and his freaking killer playing. Face to Face will still play shows from time to time and one could catch this bass pick playing freak of nature live. You may have to punch a few youngsters to get to the front but its well worth it...

one of the many forgotten bands of the 90s, its sad that no younger kids know who this band is, scott shifflet is one the few bass players who made me want to play bass over playing guitar

Ha, saw this thread and got me back to listening to Face to Face. Been a while since I've listened to them. I really love Scott's parts, really fun to play.
