Shavo Odadjian banned Ashdown ad

Sign in to disble this ad
I heard about this, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Apparently, Shavo did an ad for Ashdown that was banned in America because it had Ashdown amps in the shape of a cross with him lying on them like a crucifix. Does anyone have a picture or could they link me to one? I'm curious, it sounds interesting.

I don't quite get the banning. Try to do something edgy and they ban it and/or change the album cover to all black. Don't do something edgy enough and you lose your audience. Meh.

It wasn't all Shavo, it's clearly an Ashdown ad. It was only banned in America anyway, which I understand. Americans can be very oversensitive and our primarily Christian population isn't the most open-minded. I don't see anything in the ad to be offended by, it's just a picture. I highly doubt Shavo lost his audience in America, Europe, or anywhere else with this picture. If something about System was going to scare off their audience, a meaningless picture would be the last thing to do it.

Banned or simply not chosen for use in the US by the advertiser?

Banned. If you know anything about America's religious demographics and such, you could probably come up with some theories as to how the banning occurred.

Hmm, I'm a Christian and I wasn't offended by it. Not sure what the symbolism they were after, but I doubt it was "crucified by Ashdown".

I do and nothing would surprise me. I'm just curious as to where and by whom this ad was banned. Was it pulled after appearing in a magazine? etc.etc.

I think it's just a claim he made for publicity, controversy, or whatever. I can understand Ashdown not wishing to use the ad in the US, or a magazine refusing to carry an ad for fear of pissing off its readers, but who can 'ban' a print ad in the US?

I saw the ad, in an American magazine I'm willing to bet...so, WHO banned it? Name specific names.

For the record the ad was never banned. Ashdown got a few complaints and kindly stopped running it and apologized.

That's an ad from a few years ago. And System Of A Down owns the rights.

Maybe the point was, Ashdown amps are comfortable to lie down on.

Right.

If they had used a rendition of the prophet Mohammed in an ad, there would have been an uprising around the world calling for the destruction of Ashdown and the death of Shavo.

This, of course would have been a perfectly measured, open-minded, normal reaction, unlike the reaction of those oversensitive, closed minded American Christians.

I don't see the problem. There is much worse only a few clicks away on the internet and almost everyone has a computer connected to the internet. Not everyone gets a bass publication in the mail.
