Sheehan's "wife" stickers

Sign in to disble this ad
Just for fun, I'm building a Sheehan "wife" copy. I've tracked down most of the info I need, and have all the parts.

However one of the stickers is giving me problems. I've tracked down all of the others, but the small one on the back is giving me trouble:

The two on the front are "Powell Ripper"'s while the Dragon on the back is also from the Powell skate team, so I'm pretty sure that the final one is also skate related.

It has the letters SAD, which could be Skate and Destroy, but I've not found anything which resembles the bat like logo underneath it.

Any ideas?

thanks

Ian

Well done for getting hold of the rest of the stickers!

Are you sure this one minor sticker is important? I understand why you really want this last one, but even if you don't find it, you'll still have an AWESOME bass!

It's the Thrasher magazine 80's logo for Skate & Destroy

We have a winner!

Thanks Dr Pete. I was pretty sure it was Skate and Destroy, but hours on google images didn't turn anything more specific up - the picture on Billy's website is all I had to go on, and it's pretty indecipherable.

I can print one of those up pretty easily if I can't actually get a real one. I've already gone down that route for the winged ripper on the front. You can get colour versions, but the B&W version on Billy's bass isn't available. I made one up in photoshop that's pretty close, and am going to print it out on waterslide.

Great project idea, this from a guy who spent countless hours in the 80's staring at pictures of the "wife" bass. Keep us posted, and good luck.

It's DONE!!!

Almost - just needs a setup, and a couple more stickers to go on.

I only finished it a few hours ago, and haven't had a chance to play it much (and without the setup its obviously a dog), but it feels like it should be great once the intonation, and action is set. Sound's great too - the twin outputs are a lot of fun.

I was keeping it quiet in case it turned bad on me, and I had to admit to screwing it all up, but now it's nearly done, I'll admit I was blogging it as I went along, so I'd have a record.

You can read all about it here:http://dctsystems.blogspot.com/

That is way cool, from another Sheehan fan. Two things/suggestions -

Hipshot?

And are you going to scallop the upper frets? Wasn't sure how close you wanted to make it.

Thanks!

There's a hipshot on there - you just can't see it in the photo. The heads are angled back slightly (I since noted that Sheehan's are actually angled forwards), as that was the best way to fit them all on the headstock. Squeezing the hipshot in meant that I had to angle them back to fit, but it that means you can't see the lever.

I'd been putting off the scalloping - it's pretty scary tearing into a perfectly good neck. However now it's all together and looking good I feel a bit more confident (the headstock was originally P shaped until I took a jigsaw to it!). I definatly will scallop them out - i think I was just so pleased to get it all together I forgot I still needed to to that.

Billy Sheehan did a clinic at my local Music Store two weeks ago. His Yamaha signature basses are now going to be red and black IIRC. Speaking of his wife, she was with him and is a very pretty lady.

Man, the black and red colours are just dull next to the seafoam green!

I've seen Billy live twice now with Steve Vai, he always puts on an amazing show!
