Whenever I sit down to practice my bass on the days I can, I usually just do the scales and cover a song or two.

Is there anything else I SHOULD be doing?

Finger and tendon exercises to help avoid carpal tunnel. Work on fine tuning fingering technique to avoid undue strain in your hands and wrists. You might be interested in learning economy of motion, one of Sheehan's techniques to help with that as well. But most importantly, keep practicing. Learn some theory, or practice alternate finger techniques. As long as you keep practicing, you're on the right track.

Arpeggios, pop a CD in a player and try to play along, Learn where each and every note is on the fretboard.
