Show Me Some Vega

So I was over at the halfling site watching the preview videos and the bass sounds damn good, but who in gods name is this Bobby Vega, how did I miss him? He seems amazing and I can't find much info on him. Can anyone suggest some albums that I can find him on?

Some BObby

After seeing Bobby at School of Bass II last fall I've been slowly tracking down some of his stuff. A great place to look is at http://www.archive.org/details/etree. This site is a killer archive of live music, all legal bootlegs. Bobby played in a couple of bands with guitarist Steve Kimock, one called KVWH and prior to that, Zero. Do a search for these bands and you'll find a lot of Bobby.

I also just got a really nice album of Bobby Vega's, called simply "Bobby Vega and Chris Rossbach," it's available on iTunes (iStore) or CD Baby. This record is a nice and mellow collection of intricate grooves, just bass and guitar with a little percussion on a couple of tracks. I've not really stopped spinning it since I got it, it's amazing.

Feel free to PM if you have any questions or need a hand finding anything.

Don't forget he played for Sly and The Family Stone!!!

He took over from Rusty Allen who was hand picked and took over from someone called Larry Graham!

He played on the 'high on you' album, not sure which tracks, but I think he played the title track. It sounds like one of his 16th note picked **** lines anyway.

He's been around thirty years, I have Ronnie Laws albums on vinyl from the 70's with Bobby's very funky bass on them.

I saw him, and met him, at School of Bass too. He is the king of groove. Nice guy too. I videotaped a few songs he played. Great stuff. And when he and Chuck Rainey played blues together.....

I was there, too! Absolutely awesome.

Also, check out his web site, which has his bio and stuff.

There were sooo many great players at the SOBII, but Bobby just really grooved. And such a nice dude, too!

He told us that he still gets VERY nervous when he plays. A guy with his chops definitely should not be nervous. But he is a VERY humble guy.

BTW, he was 16 when he started with Sly and the Family Stone!

Minor thread hijack: Chris Rossbach, the guitarist who I mentioned above, is the same guy Bobby played with at SOBII. If you liked their set together there you will love the album.

He is a great guitar player. The blues he played with Chuck Rainey and Bobby Vega smoked. And the fanned fret guitar was pretty cool too. Didn't they say he plays with The Meters?

Chris does not play with the Meters, but on Zig's more recent solo work.

BTW - any of you SOB guys hear back from the teachers? Two of them offered to send more materials if emailed; I did, they didn't. I should move this thread over to the 'pit. . .
