I ain't saying he is/was the best, but McCartney's my favorite. Period. If I could play like one bassist it would be him.

I know Sir Paul's gets his share of love here, but I'm asking to see who picks him as favorite. That's different than just liking/respecting his work, obviously.

Me, as of last night. I was listening to "Let it be" for some inspiration and was just completely blown away. Of course, I love his stuff on Revolver and near everything else he did. "Let it be" just blew me away and sealed the deal, though.

I vote yes-he's the reason I wanted to be a bass player from the time I was 12 years old. Got my first bass at 13 and the first song I learned was "Let Me Roll It." now I'm 41 and I've listened to and played a whole lot of music since then but...I got it right at 12.

Paul is without a doubt my #1 influence on bass. The Beatles are my #1 musical influence overall.

He's my fave if for no other reasons(and there are others) than:
1.Playing his bass parts pays the mortgage.
2.I'd have never met my wife if I wasn't playing bass in a Beatles band.
3.I wouldn't have my beautiful son if I hadn't met my wife at a one of my Beatles band's shows.

I do for sure. He changed the rules for pop bass, as the Beatles did for pop rock in general. I get a big kick out of throwing a Beatles CD in and learning it cover to cover. He's taught me so much about phrasing and making a bass line move while not sounding like it's overplaying. Class act for sure.

He is my favorite and the main reason I picked up bass to begin with.

Paul McCartney is the man, for sure.
From Beatle 65, to Let It Be, Paul has been an inspiration.
The White Album kill me every time i listen to it.

Hey Ronn -- popover to the thread about Beatles using A=435 for their first LP And see what you think.
McCartney and old time needle jumping (??)

Interesting, my story is the same except I started playing around 65-66 when the Beatles were 'huge". I actually play my hofner Club Bass at all live shows these days.Excellent Bass BTW.

The Beatles were pretty much disbanded by the time you were 12, right?

I'm in! Not only do I love his Basslines, Voice, and songwriting; I love how he can pull off extreme cheesiness and still command respect. Who else could write "Silly Love Songs" and pull it off without a hint of irony?
I once wondered how weird it would be to be in Paul's position. Being that, when people meet you, some may end up crying. I know I would. I'm a 37 year old male without many feminine tendencies. Pride makes me well up moreso than pain. Paul makes me proud to be part of the human species!

I added a couple things that weren't really on topic, anything I have on the main subject would just be my opinion and conjecture.

Thanks. If we'd known all this in 1962, I'd have gone over to the Please Please Me sessions and started taking notes. PPM was recorded on my birthday, BTW.
