Hey all,
I've been searching around but cant seem to find much anywhere....
I was wondering if anyone knew what bass effects georg holm from Sigur Ros uses.
Or gear for that matter, cant seem to find a good shot of his amp, he gets some great deep rumbles i'd love to emulate.
I have my suspissions but im probably wrong
Any info would be greatly appreciated! |

try asking this on the tape op forum. i bet you will get lots of replies. |

Typically he uses Ampegs, I've seen a lot of B-15s, but I don't know when they were used in relation to Sigur Ros' history, if he still uses him now or if they were early on, etc. I've seen pictures of their studio, but the only thing I know for sure that he uses as far as pedals go is an EBMM Volume and a Boss RC20XL looper.

Sounded great. I recall seeing him play Fender Precisions and an acoustic bass in the Heima video, which documents the band's tour of Iceland in 2006 at the end of the Takk tour. It is an incredible film, which any Sigur Ros fan should experience.
Wow, I've gone from a reading a Gene Simmons thread to a Sigur Ros thread. It's a little disorienting.

I seem to remember someone from the band saying that a lot of their sound comes from the mics that they use, and how they are positioned. But I could be mis-remembering. I'm good at that.
Regardless, I really enjoy his playing.

When I saw them a few years ago, Goggi used a Jazz Bass. There may have been something else, but I was kinda far back. All I know is it sounded massive. |

He uses the drumstick in Hafsol, not Olsen Olsen, but in Olsen Olsen he uses a combination of pick and fingerstyle. He also plays Ebow on a few songs, most notably the song "Ebow." Such a fantastic track.
He has used a lot of Ampeg B15s throughout the years, usually with an octave pedal for stuff like Glosoli and Takk... (the intro to takk).
He also has a Jaguar...love that bass.
This is from an interview that they did a few years ago:
georg: "i use a pedal from EBS called an octobass - it,s an octaver. i don't really use it that much, but i sometimes use an e-bow and that takes all the bottom end off the bass. i use a regular e-bow - i don't understand why they don't make one for the bass. this pedal is a drive but you don't have to use it as s drive; it can be just a great sustain and then it sounds fantastic."
Here's the whole interview: http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/media/articles/sound0.php
They also mention Eventide Harmonizers (so, so sick) in that article. |

The work that Goggi and Jonsi do in Hoppipolla - Med Blodnasir is lovely. I love how they play 2 basses together! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvzkagVvOxs |

He also uses a EBS Fafner bass head sometimes or a old fliptop Ampeg like the B-15.
Hope this helps.. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
