Ok.. I have seen threads for pick players, slap, and multi finger style.....

Are there any famous/great bass players that use just one finger on the right hand?

I think I read that the fellow who played in the latest Mavis Staples record does 'the hook' as well.....

I guess the point is, there are few players in the one finger category. I use three fingers and a thumb, and for certain songs..a pick.

I use all fingers and thumb, depends on the toon I'm playin'. But I do find I'm starting to use the "Hook" a little more than I used to. And with turning my finger around a quarter twist gives me a nice sort of double bass sound and feel.

Yeah me too, but I use a pick as well as my fingers and thumb. For some things, the one finger technique works great (like steady 1/8th notes IMO). Sometimes I double up and use my forefinger and middle together but do not alternate. Works well too.

First 3 famous ones that came to my mind were Jamerson, Geddy Lee and Chuck Rainey.

Mike Huckabee

Yep. The politician. Saw a couple of videos of him playing and he's definitely a "hook" player

The only three I can think of are Jamerson, Geddy and Tim C.

I hook most of the time, but I have to tell you the truth I wasn't aware of it till I started watching videos of myself. Unconscious hooking a new medical term lol

I use "The Hook" too. I've tried to get a two finger rolling motion, kinda like maybe Michael Anthony from VH but cant seem to make it work.
