Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not looking to add to the "when is a bassist a wannabe guitarist" debate that is raging in another thread, but I had a question:

Excepting Anthony Jackson and John Patitucci, how many other recorded professionals are known for being PRIMARILY six-string bassists?

This is not an accusation or indictment...in fact, I'm thinking of getting a 6-string, which prompted my curiosity.

Thanks.

Those are the ones that spring immedately to mind. If I think of any more, I'll post again.

Les Claypool - 6 string fretless?

I know a few Jazz players in the UK, but you wouldn't have heard of them.

There are probably lots of relatively unknown studio bassists that use 6's. I've seen bassists for pop bands like britney spears etc. playing 6 string basses.

I've seen Phish a few times-I think Gordon only uses a 5. Anyone know what kind?

The last few tours (from Story of the Ghost on), I'm pretty sure Mike Gordon was using a Modulus Quantum Five. Prior to that, he used Languedoc custom made basses.

Phil Lesh is a famous user of 6-string basses.

I could have sworn Gordon was playing a Modulus 6 on "Austin City Limits".
