The Skeleton Suit

Hey, does anyone know who owns JE's skeleton suit? (Isle of Wright 1970)

If it was sold in the auctions (like his basses), how much did it sell for?

I was curious because it appears to have been an influence on today's rock bass community, as I've seen pictures of Flea in one as well.

I have no idea what happened to it. I also would like to wear one - I REALLY wanted one for our Halloween gig this year. The cheap costume ones are, well, cheap. Plus I am 250+ pounds and the "one size fits all" don't.

A small constructive criticism: It is the Isle of Wight, not "Wright". (I have also heard it called the Isle of White.) There, now you know!

And isn't there a similar festival just off the eastern shores of Japan called the Isle Of Wong?

Word has it that my hero JE spent a fortune on clothes, the only problem being that he had the worst taste.

To my opinioned eye, he looked pretty hip in the early and mid 60s, but RnR Circus and that leather skeleton suit was the start of his sartorial slide that seemed to have stalled at 70s printed shirts and leather disco jackets, and also included unfortunate experiments with facial hair configuration and jack-and-the-beanstalk giant-style pageboy hairdos.

I met the guy in the late 80s, and he was still sporting big -bucks disco wear, that horrendous "Boris the Spider" pendant that must have cost a mint, and clouds of Aramis. As a really big fan of his bass playing, I'd always thought that after shaking his hand I'd never wash mine again, but that cologne sent me right to the bathroom sink.

P.S.:

For a peek at a modern custom recreation Isle of Wight skeleton suit, check out tribute band "The Who Show," and the band bassist's own MySpace page.

All and all a respectable group if you go for that sort of thing -- but it's the Daltrey guy in this combo who really kicks ass IMO.

Boy you nailed that! Them duds was beyond pimp! I guess he realized no one was filming him so he amped up the colors in an attempt to get camera time, heh! my favorite was the red leather suit on the cover of "Too Late The Hero" the skeleton suit was cool though. I think it might have been a Vanson racing leather. They were recently available from Vanson. Either that or they made it as a replica. I do know there was a guy on the BMW M/C race team wore an identical suit through the 70's, righ tdown to the gloves. You can still get a jacket from them with the "Bones" pattern.

Yeah, I've seen them on YouTube once. I thought the bassist nailed Entwistle's technique pretty well.

Do you think it would be possible to get one from a BMW dealership?

I'm at a dealer, that'd be a no. They're stylin' for the 70's here and it ain't retro at all.

WOW! It makes me sweat to just imagine myself under the lights with that on! It would be so sweet if you could get the same thing printed on a black long sleeve t shirt...

Pardon the slight hijack, but why is it that skeletons are always up to some kind of evil s**t?
