Did anyone catch tonite's episode of NBC Dateline? Not sure if it was a rerun or new episode. They did a story on a young woman living in North Philly named Linda McNeal (McNeil?). She's a struggling student and musician who also happens to be a martial arts expert. A man hearing of her tough reputation had solicited the killing of his wife, asking Linda if she would do it. To make a long story short, she did the right thing and went to the police.

During the broadcast they covered her hardship trying to be a student and working musician. She showed some serious skill on the bass. I hope someone was watching that could use her services as a musician and ease her financial burden. She definitely has strong moral values chosing to do the right thing rather than follow the code of silence that prevails in the hood. Although I'm sure some doors may have closed to her in North Philly, hopefully some of the right doors will now open in her life.

I happened to catch the special with my wife last night. What was more interesting than her bass skills was the story itself. However, she totally had the persona of a bassist. She wasn't too shabby on the bass either!

That was quite a story. I definitely think the guy would have targeted her next after he killed his wife. She kind of had a Me'Shell NdegéOcello vibe going on.

My wife and I caught that special last night. I am hoping that a solid paying gig results from this. She's clearly got the musical skills and the personal ethic to make a solid living as a bassist. Just hope that someone gives her a shot!

So glad there is some chatter about Linda. I watched the Dateline episode. I liked her playing, liked her ethics, and - like you - hope something really good comes of this exposure for her. Has anyone found anything on YouTube? elsewhere? I haven't...but will keep an eye out for her.
