Don't know if she is any kind of player but how weird is this that she was thirteen in the photo then ends up becoming the bands bassist 20 or so years later? I didnt see a thread on this so i thought I would share it.

Sometimes girls are amazing rock musicians and other times they're presence is a gimmick.

Sometimes girls are amazing rock musicians and other times they're presence is a gimmick. | D'arcy is credited for playing bass on both Gish and Siamese Dream. Corgan is also listed as paying bass on Siamese Dream.
It's not uncommon for some writers to just lay down all the parts when they record. It's easier than teaching people the songs, and you already have all the parts in your head. People like Price have been doing that for years, but he still has good bass players in his bands.
I do it too.
From Wikipedia:
Corgan's desire for musical perfection put further strain on the already-frayed relationships between the band members. Vig later recalled, "D'arcy would lock herself in the bathroom, James wouldn't say anything, or Billy would lock himself in the control room". Corgan often overdubbed Iha's and Wretzky's parts with his own playing. Wretzky stated that Corgan only performed most of the guitar and bass parts because he could lay them down in recording easier and with far fewer takes.

Sometimes girls are amazing rock musicians and other times they're presence is a gimmick. | By some accounts, Billy Corgan also played all of James Iha's parts on Gish and SD.

I'm not sure why.
From Wikipedia: 'It was confirmed by both her and Corgan, however, that Corgan played the bass tracks for Siamese Dream because he could complete them in far fewer takes.'
Posture, I suppose.

| So she said "most of" not "all of."
You get "points" when you play on a record. If you don't play anything, you don't get any royalties. Since they were part of the band, and were part of the recording sessions, even if he replaced both of their parts it's only right to give them credit.
Same thing was true on My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. Except for vocals, Kevin Shields played everything on the album, except on the song Touched. He even used drum samples for most of the drum tracks.

| And that is exactly the qualifier that makes her credit on the album questionable. Heck, if she even recorded one note then she deserves credit for laying down some bass on Siamese Dream. But she didn't. Not most of or some, or even a passage here and there, but apparently none.
As far as songwriters filling in for musicians on their instruments, to each their own. In my opinion, unless the songwriter is an experienced bassist themselves, they should not be able to execute bass lines better than an experienced bassist. I'd be highly embarrassed if I were in the studio and my drummer or guitarist could lay down better bass tracks than me (better= faster/cleaner/efficient). It's not a crime or anything, I think it just exposes who is a hack and/or who is an egomaniac.
