Snortin Whiskey & Drinking Cocaine - who is it?

Sign in to disble this ad
I know it's Pat Travers but who's the bassist?

It's an awesome song and the bass just kills... both the part itself, and the tone. It sounds like something Billy Sheehan would play but I'm quite sure that song is before Billy's time...

Thanks in advance.

Yep. Mars Cowling. Great player -- great tone. One of the best of that era.

If you like that get the LIVE album. Drums & bass KILL on that.

Mars info:

PS: It is my understanding that Mars used a Jet Flanger( http://www.pedalheaven.com/models?m=251 ) which is cloned pretty well in Line 6's BassPODXTLive. It's the flanger of choice for bassists IMO. You can hear the effect on "Crash & Burn" and "Born Under a Bad Sign"(the intro part)

I saw them on the "live ,Go for what you know" tour. They were opening for Cheap Trick.
Cheap Trick sucked, but Pat Travers band made up for it. They killed everyone.
I still love listening to that album. Great work on it by Cowling.

Same for San Diego - That was a *big* old tour - BOC was the "headliner", along with cheap trick... But Travers stole the show.

Mars!

Yeah - another +1 for Mars and specifically the "Live - Go For What You Know" album. Tommy Aldridge on Drums, Pat Travers and Pat Thrall on guitar. Whew.
Mars assaults the P-bass, just spanks it! Love his attitude and choice lines.
Enjoy discovering him - very good find indeed.

Mars Cowling is awesome with Pat Travers. Man, he wears the bass so high it might as well be a hat! Obviously works for him though, huh?
